Google Takes Action against Youtube Typo Survey Scams

Google Takes Action against Youtube Typo Survey Scams

Maladroit typists can be easy prey for scam artists, as Twitter recently discovered, and now Google's dealing with its own impostors. So far, so predictable. We tried our luck at youtbe.com, and were promptly informed that as today's winner in Osaka, we could take our pick from three surveys; written in barely comprehensible, machine-translated Japanese. The domains - youtbe.com, youtub.com, youube.com, and yutube.com — are all registered to the same person in Illinois, according to Whois records, and all direct users to a fraudulent website offering cash or other rewards in exchange for survey information. It's filed a series of domain disputes with the National Arbitration Forum this week, related to sites designed to ensnare unsuspecting users trying to visit YouTube.

Once that's settled the URLs should be transferred straight into Google's ownership, but until then we'd recommend typing with restraint the next time you go looking for cat videos. Google should have a pretty clear case, here; it simply needs to prove that the domain is "confusingly similar" to a trademark, being used in bad faith, and that the domain holder has no rights to the product referenced in the name.

Google doodles a digital guitar on Les Paul's birthday

He designed a solid body electric guitar in 1941, but it finally went on sale by the Gibson Guitar Company in 1952. He also pioneered the development of multi-track recording and invented the eight-track tape recorder and the technique of overdubbing.

The Google doodle had first gone interactive in May 2010 to celebrate the 30th birthday of the popular Pac-Man game.

Google has put up a digital version of the legendary electric guitar, the Gibson Les Paul, in place of its logo to celebrate the 96th birthday of the country and jazz guitarist, songwriter and inventor, Lester William Polsfuss, better known as Les Paul.

The Google doodle in honour of Les Paul is playable by hovering the cursor over the doodle. Les Paul was known for his innovative and experimental guitar playing style.

Born on June 9, 1915 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Les Paul developed an interest in music at the age of eight when he started to play the harmonica, followed by banjo and finally moved to the love of his life - the guitar.

He had formed his own Les Paul Trio in the 1930s and performed long with Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters in the 1940s. He also had his own radio program.

In 1988 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2005 in the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

He continued to play and perform live well into his 90s. In 2006, aged 90, he won two Grammys. Les Paul died on August 12, 2009. He was 94.

Google has now become more frequent with animated and interactive doodles. Of the last 10 Google doodles, five included animations or were interactive.

For a dozen years, Google has been occasionally swapping its everyday logo for a doodle. The Google doodles, an artistic take on the Google logo, have gained immense popularity over the past few years and the Google doodle team has put out commemorative doodles on numerous events of international or national importance, ranging from news events, civic milestones, birthdays, death anniversaries and important dates in history. Google estimates it has created more than 900 doodles since 1998, with 270 of them running in 2010. Some appear globally, and others are tailored for local markets.

Google Story | Internet

“If you have an unhappy customer on the internet, he doesn’t tell his six friends, he tells his 6,000 friends.”
- Jeff bezos president Amazon.com

The google story-

What performs 150 million searches a day, speak 74 languages, reaches 32 countries, and is the 15th –most-visited U.S. Web site? The answer is Google.com, the privately owned, growing and profitable dot-com firm. By some estimates, Google’s 2001 revenues hovered around $70 million, while it doubled its number of employees and earned about $15 million in profit.

This success is particularly remarkable because Google entered the market in 1998, well after the other search engines were firmly entrenched with loyal customers. How did Google do it? First, it got the technology right at a low cost. Co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page figured out how to pack eight times as much server power in the same amount of space as competitors by building their own system from commodity hardware parts. Second, they invented an innovative new search strategy: ranking search query page result based not only keywords but also on popularity –as measured, in part, by number of sites that link to each web page. This meant that users search results were packed with relevant web sites. Finally the founders maintained a customer focus, used simple graphics, allowed no advertising on home page, and allowed only banner ads with graphics so search result pages download faster and are easier to read.

Google generates revenues from two B2B markets. It sells its search services to 130 Web sites such as Yahoo.com and AOL.com; it also sells keyword banners to Web advertisers. In a firm where 15% of employees hold a Ph.D., the innovation continues. The profitability is likely to continue as well, because Google pays close attention to user value, keeps costs low, and delivers eyeballs to advertisers.
